Enabling them to rebuild livelihoods

Following the tsunami of December 2004 the UK based charity Eagles Wings has focused on supporting children orphaned on the East coast of India near Chennai. To date 7 simple homes have been built and emergency food, water, clothing and blankets have been sent.

The donations given through the Deborah Company UK have enabled the support of local fishermen through buying new fishing nets; enabling them to rebuild their livelihood.

"Making a difference to children who hope for a better future".

Many children lost parents as a result of the tsunami leaving them in very difficult circumstances and with little hope of making a way for themselves in the future. Emergency care is provided for some through the tireless work of dedicated individuals, but the plan is to bring the children together into a purpose built centre in Yelambakkam (about 50 miles north east of Chennai). Here they can be cared for, fed, clothed and educated in safe and secure surroundings. To date the Deborah Company has been able to provide fresh water and to buy dall, spices, fresh vegetables and sweets for these children.

Eagles Wings' primary aim is to provide food, clean water, clothing, housing, medicines, training and care to those who live in difficult circumstances. They believe that many people would like to give in some way to support those who struggle to live in desperate situations, but are cautious about red tape, high administration costs and corruption. They assure you that each project is personally overseen by a trustee and a local volunteer manager known to them personally.
