A Father's Provision Rod Anderson

Every journey begins with the first step they say, and they’re right. The journey towards faith in God’s desire to help us with material needs begins in my opinion foremost with the simple understanding of His Father’s heart towards us.

The word of God is of course full of scriptural patterns and heavenly wisdom in regards to sowing, reaping, and the understanding of how just not quitting at something will bring its reward; but far more important is the foundational truth that our Almighty God would like us to see Him first as Dad.

We’ve probably never plumbed the depths of Romans 8:15 which tells us that in Christ we have now received the “Spirit of adoption” which is to cause our hearts to cry Abba. I’ll always remember my first visit to Israel and walking in the streets of Jerusalem, and of course not being able to understand all the Hebrew being spoken when I suddenly heard little children utter a word I did understand, Abba, as they called out to their fathers. the only stability that you’ve ever known? But then just as suddenly you hear his voice calling out to you, and you yell out unashamedly, “Daddy!” Relief and the sense of

Again we know that it’s an affectionate term like our use of “Daddy.” The apostle Paul says this reception of the Spirit of Adoption should not just be doctrinally understood, but rather be an explosion of revelation that causes our hearts to cry out! Can you possibly remember as a child those times when somehow you wandered from you father amidst hundreds of people in a shopping centre, and suddenly realized you didn’t know where he was and that fear rose in your hearts? Tears begin to fill your eyes because you had no contact with security comes flooding back as you were once again brought together.

This is what Paul is trying to communicate. We’re to have this overwhelming sense of belonging that is to explode into our hearts when we really understand that we’ve reconnected with Him whom we were always destined to be with. Abba! Daddy! My security! My safe place! Home! This cry from the heart can be louder than any other voice if we’ll let it be. There’s no shame, no embarrassment, just the incredible relief of being back where you were supposed to be.

God is our Father! This simple but profound truth must be grasped! Ephesians 3:14-15 says:

14 For this reason [seeing the greatness of this plan by which you are built together in Christ], I bow my knees before the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15 For Whom every family in heaven and on earth is named [that Father from Whom all fatherhood takes its title and derives its name]. (Amplified Bible – highlighting mine)(No highlighting)

God is the pattern for a real father as all fatherhood takes its title from Him. Be honest with yourself. If you have children, doesn’t your heart sincerely desire to do everything you can for them? Of course you do. If you had the resources would you even think twice about making sure they were well protected, well fed, and given a great education? I hope not.

In Matthew 7:11 Jesus said to His listeners that if they as earthly fathers being evil give good gifts unto their children as a natural act, how much more will Your Heavenly Father give good things to those who ask Him? How much more! Remember what Ephesians 3:20 declares to us all:

Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]
(Amplified Bible)

To question God’s ability is bad enough, but to question the sincerity of His heart towards His children should be unthinkable. We must look at the whole topic of our material needs from this vantage point, or all other teaching and instruction regarding finances will be fruitless. God forgive us for attempting to have faith in some biblical principle, without first having faith in the Author of the principle. Faith in any area must be a source before it’s a force. We have to have things right vertically before we begin to work horizontally.

This is where you start. See Him for Who He is. A Father with an ocean sized heart of love for you as His child. Of course He wants to provide for you. Of course He doesn’t want you to lack any good thing. You must get that right first before any other instruction is implemented. Once an individual truly begins to comprehend His heart and His desire towards them, faith becomes a natural by-product of that relationship. He’s withholding no good thing from you. Do you really hear that? He is not withholding any good thing from you! All we have to do is walk up and right before Him with an honest heart. Then we can begin to put into action the principles of heaven that have always worked. They have to work because they’re spiritual laws that have no beginning and no end.

Being by trusting dad. He has no resource problem, no lack of anything, and above all, He is willing to show Himself strong to you. In fact, He’s waiting, right now, this moment, for you to say yes to His offer.
